The Setting
This homeowner recently purchased their dream home in a gorgeous location in the woods. When you drive up the cobbled, tree-lined driveway it feels like a fairytale opening to a stately brick home with a circular driveway and stunning landscaping. However, the finishes on the interior were a bit dark, drab, and definitely outdated. A large scale renovation completed their dream.

The Challenge
This client loves color and style and wanted to expand the kitchen and brighten up the space but was not sure how to reconfigure the layout to achieve that goal.

The Summary
Enter the team of DiPlacido & MJ at Kitchen Views. Working together we came up with the concept of moving the entire kitchen from one location with low, flat ceilings to another area with high, vaulted ceilings with skylights so the kitchen would feel more expansive and be able to get more natural light.

We eliminated the existing sliders and added two windows to let lots of light come in and so they could see the beautiful backyard and pool area while working in the kitchen.

Overall this renovation created a bigger and brighter kitchen that welcomes everyone to enjoy time together.

In addition to the efficient work area being conveniently positioned for meal preparations and clean-up chores, the large island also provides functional seating for quick island snack as well as a place for people to gather.

Cozy Corner

Where the kitchen was formerly, we put a new French door going out to the backyard and installed a custom bench seat. Pantry storage cabinetry makes good use of this area adjacent to the kitchen.

With the table and chairs placed next to the built-in bench, it can be used as a breakfast nook or for any casual gatherings. The bar area with wine fridge makes this the perfect cozy corner for the adults to gather with a glass of wine and chat in the evenings.

Making the most of every storage opportunity, the bench seat has storage drawers underneath for linens and other items.
